Short answer
You need to be 18+ and verify your ID.Minimum deposit is $10 ($1,000 for a wire). To cash out early, you sell your contracts.Limit orders that rest on the book usually avoid the trading fee.

Kalshi is a prediction market. Instead of betting at odds, you buy contracts that pay $1 if you're right. Here's exactly how to go from no account to your first trade, and how to get your money back out.

Step 1: Set up your account

1Download the Kalshi app or go to kalshi.com.
2Sign up with your email. Kalshi takes users 18 and older.
3Verify your identity with your legal name, address and ID. You can't trade until this clears.
4Turn on two-factor login. Kalshi asks for a login code about once every 30 days anyway.

Step 2: Deposit

The minimum deposit is $10. A wire has a $1,000 minimum. Your deposit limits are shown on the Transfers page.

▸Bank transfer (ACH)
▸Debit card, including Apple Pay and Google Pay
▸PayPal or Venmo
▸Crypto

New deposits can sit on a short security hold before you can withdraw them. Kalshi's help center gives debit card deposits as an example: they're withdrawable 3 days after the deposit. Start small on your first deposit.

Step 3: Read the market

Open a game and you'll see a Yes price and a No price, like Yes 62¢ and No 38¢. They always add up to about $1. The 62¢ means the market gives that outcome about a 62% chance.

Step 4: Place your trade

1Pick Yes or No.
2Choose how many contracts. 50 contracts at 62¢ costs $31.00.
3Pick a market order to buy right now at the best price, or a limit order to name your own price and wait.
4Check the fee before you confirm. It shows on the order screen.
Fee = 0.07 × 50 × $0.62 × $0.38 = $0.8246, rounded up to $0.83

If your limit order rests on the book and someone else takes it, you usually pay no fee at all. Canceling a resting order is free too. That's why patient bettors use limit orders.

Step 5: Cash out early by selling

Kalshi doesn't have a cash-out button like a sportsbook. You cash out by selling. Go to your position, tap sell, and either take the best bid or set a limit price.

As the game gets close to decided, buyers thin out and the spread widens. Selling early is easiest when the market is busy.

Step 6: Withdraw

When the game settles, winning contracts pay $1 each into your balance. Withdraw from the Transfers page. Kalshi's help center lists bank, debit card, PayPal and Venmo withdrawal options for US users, and Venmo withdrawals carry no fee. Your withdrawal has to go to an account in your own name.

Mistakes to avoid

▸Buying with a market order in a quiet market and paying a wide spread.
▸Ignoring the fee on 50/50 contracts, where it's biggest.
▸Depositing by card and expecting to withdraw the same day.
▸Betting more because it feels like a stock app. It's still a bet. Same bankroll rules.
