What is a unit in betting?
Short answer
A unit is a fixed slice of your bankroll.1% to 3% is the common range.Units make results comparable across bankrolls.Recalculate your unit as your bankroll changes.
A unit is your normal bet size. Instead of saying I bet $40, you say I bet one unit. It keeps your betting consistent and your results honest.

How to set yours
1Decide your bankroll: money set aside only for betting, that you can afford to lose.
2Pick a percentage. 1% to 2% is a good starting point.
3Multiply. $2,000 at 2% is a $40 unit.
4Recheck every month or so. If the bankroll grows or shrinks, your unit does too.
Why bettors talk in units
Up $500 sounds great until you learn the person bets $1,000 a game. Up 10 units means the same thing for everyone. It's the honest way to share results.
My take
Bet the same unit on almost everything. Beginners who go five units on their favorite pick usually give back a month of profit in one bad night.
